DIY Scrap Wood Book Stack

I have been wanting to re-decorate my built-in bookshelf (more on that later), and was trying to find things around the house to add to it. I wanted the look of stacked books, but most of my books are thick and colorful (think Harry Potter!)… I wanted something light and not stand out too much.

I went to Pinterest, and found a cute (and SIMPLE) “book”decoration idea using scrap wood. Check out what I did!

I used 1×8 wood, and cut three pieces to be 8″ in length. I sanded the rough edges.

I did a light painting with white chalk paint and a paper towel. This gave the wood a rustic look. I only painted the top and sides of the piece of wood that will be on top of the stack. All others, I just painted the sides.

Once the pieces of wood dried, I used wood glue to glue the three pieces of wood on top of each other.

I used a pencil to draw out the words “let’s stay home”, one on each book. I’m not very good with hand-lettering, but I gave it a go anyways.

I got some twine and wrapped the books, almost like a present.

That was it! Easy peasy. I’ll have to post again whenever I finish decorating my bookshelf!
