Part 2 of our cabin makeover was refinishing our refrigerator to cover up a bunch of rust spots. The side of the fridge that was rusty faced a window, so there was a lot of moisture and wind that came from the outside straight to the fridge side.

My brother, Bill, did this project and it was AMAZING to see the difference. It didn’t take him long to do it, either! Here is what he did…

Bill purchased white Rust-Oleum Appliance Epoxy paint from Home Depot. For one quart, it cost him about $27. (Tip: be sure to open windows/place fans in the room and wear a mask when you are using this paint. The smell is VERY strong!)

He began by sanding the rust off as much as possible. He used 220 grit sandpaper and was careful not to sand too hard, so he wouldn’t scratch the refrigerator.

Bill then wiped down the side of the fridge to get rid of any dust.

He took a regular 2” paint brush and painted the side with the Epoxy paint. He would let it dry and then do another coat. It ended up needing 3-4 coats.

Check it out now…

It looks like new! I can’t believe how well this paint covered those awful rust spots.
