My sister’s house was built in the 1950s, and it is a ranch on a basement. Their basement is legit, complete with concrete walls. The problem is- it’s hard to design around concrete walls.
For many years, this one bedroom was the kids’ hangout area. They had put painted plywood siding over the concrete wall for the kids to decorate.

The other side was the same- painted plywood over the concrete. The side walls were a lovely shade of yellow brown.

Now, the kids are in college and my sister wanted to turn this room into a more formal guest suite.
First, they started by tearing down the plywood.

They painted the wall where the handprints were in a shade she had on hand… kind of a greenish gray. The other three walls were painted in Benjamin Moore’s Pale Oak.
She made her own headboards (using the handprint plywood… more on that later!) and hung window treatments. Check it out now!

This was an inexpensive fix that made a huge difference!
