My friend Rose is at it again! She has done several fun projects at her house that she has graciously let me share with you on this blog. Her latest project was painting her kitchen cabinets and her kitchen island… all by herself!
If you are interested in doing this but don’t feel like you have the ability to do so… keep reading.
Check out the before pictures:

First, Rose scrubbed down all the cabinets and the island with warm water, vinegar and dawn with a new cleaning sponge.

She taped the floor and the walls, put plastic on the floor, and removed all of the cabinet doors.

She purchased white semi-gloss Urethane Alkyd Enamel paint made specifically for cabinets. She also purchased the blue paint in satin to match the barn door she installed last year.

Rose said she loves the alkaline paint because it spreads to well and has low odor. It was a semi-gloss paint, which gave the cabinets a shinier look. She used a small 4-inch roller, which provided more even strokes and a flatter finish on the surface. She painted a coat and then let it fully dry for a whole day before she did another coat. In the end, it took a total of three coats for the cabinets.

Rose used satin paint (less shiny) on the island so the wood looked more like real wood.

Check it out now!!!!

It’s amazing how much paint can change up a space! The kitchen is so much lighter and brighter, and I love how the blue shade ties the island, barn door, and rolling cart together.
