Remember me talking about our rustic cabin and how we are going to update it? Well, project #1 was the downstairs bathroom. Functionally, it is all fine, but it definitely could have used some paint.

Before: The shower. My parents put up paneling on the walls of the shower, which have been fine… but the moisture from both the shower and just the mountains in general took its toll on the look of it. The window had lots of mold on it as well. Nothing a little paint couldn’t fix!

I used mold-killing primer to hopefully prevent future molding. I started with a couple of coats and was surprised at how well it covered. When I did three coats of this primer, it looked like solid white paint! I’m going to leave it like this for now and may go back with a coat of regular white paint later.

After!

Before: The mirror/light fixture/medicine cabinet:

The mirror and light fixture were both old, and the light fixture was so not fitting for the cabin. The medicine cabinet was yellowed and had that distressed look to it. (I don’t have a before pic of it)

This was an easy fix. My mom picked up two basic globes for $5 each at Home Depot, so we didn’t have to purchase a whole new light fixture. I painted the trim of the mirror a bright white. I also painted the medicine cabinet a solid white with blue paint on the inside.

In the future, I’ll probably spray paint the light fixture itself.

Before: the door.

Last summer, I had begun painting the door a pretty blue color (Stratton Blue). I didn’t get a chance to finish the inside of the bathroom door, so it was left looking like this:

Also, the trim around the door had mildew on it, so I went over it with the mildew paint.

After!

I also painted this stool in Stratton Blue.

Check out the bathroom now!
