Cheap Ways to Update a Front Door

Going back to the rental house we had for 10 years… we knew we would need to update the house before listing it a few years ago, but we also didn’t want to spend a ton of money to do so. It’s amazing how some simple things that don’t break the bank can make a big difference!

This house was built in the 1950s, and some things had never been updated. The front door, the storm door in front of it, and the porch light fixture were very old, dated, and worn looking. For, about $25 (no joke), we were able to update it to 2017 standards!

Here were the original parts:

Front door
Storm/screen door
Corroded old light fixture with missing glass panes

We purchased a light fixture similar to this for about $15.

We painted the front door and the storm door black, with exterior latex paint.

A couple of coats in…
Stephen was able to use his basic electrician skills to change the light fixture out.
This was how it looked when we listed it. Much better than before!
