Our master closet is a decent size, but has had basic wire shelving since we moved in 5 years ago. There was so much space that could be utilized by adding more shelves, so Stephen and I decided to finally do something about it.

Here are some before pictures to give you an idea of what our closet was like:

Disaster area 😬

Home Depot sells closet systems by Closet Evolution, that can be shipped to your home and installed by yourself. There are many different layouts of pieces you can choose from that are adjustable, so you can customize them for your specific closet.

We ordered the items we wanted, knowing they’d take a few days to deliver, and got to work removing the wire shelves. These shelves made decent-sized holes, so Stephen repaired the holes and then painted the walls in SW Sea Salt.

The pieces arrived on a huge pallet. This is how this closet system works: you put up metal brackets on the wall, and the shelf pieces actually hang on the brackets. Stephen went piece by piece, measuring where the bracket would go, making sure he hit studs along the way.

Then the hanging began!

Stephen had to cut the metal rods to fit the exact width that was needed for each section. He installed those, and… voila! It was done! Check out the finished product.

Isn’t it so much better?? All of these closet pieces cost us about $2,500. We didn’t get quotes for businesses to install a closet system for us, but I feel like we paid a fraction of what it could have cost!

The best news is that there are pieces that can fit almost any size closet.
