My husband decided to do more built-in shelving in the garage. We can always use more storage spots at our house! Here is what he did:

  1. He purchased five 2x4s and screwed them into the walls at the different heights he wanted for the shelves.

2. Using more 2x4s, he built a frame. He had two 2x4s going vertically, and then screwed in five 2x4s to match with the ones screwed into the wall.

3. He cut more 2x4s to 15″, which is the depth he wanted the shelves to be. Using pocket screws, he connected these 2x4s to the ones screwed into the wall. He screwed then in about 4″ from either end, and he did three per row.

4. He installed the frame, connecting it to the fronts of the horizontal 2x4s. He used pocket screws again to connect them together.

5. He screwed the frame to the horizontal pieces from the front as well.

6. He cut MDF boards to fit each level. He slid the pieces in, resting on the horizontal pieces of wood. He then screwed the MDF board down into the horizontal pieces.

Check it out now! This shelf is very strong, it’s amazing how simple it can be to make something like this.
