I love making projects out of scrap wood or things we already have around the house. It’s a win-win- you create something new, and don’t have to put out any money!

I had seen one of those string hook ring games (that’s my name for it, I have no idea what it’s really called- ha!) and decided to try to recreate it. I completely winged it, but thankfully it worked out, so I’ll let you know what I did!

What I needed:
-1×6 piece of wood (12″)
-1×3 piece of wood (12″)
-1×2 piece of wood (13″)
-1×3 piece of wood (15″)
-two hooks that screw in
-two eye hooks
-two key rings
string
1.5″ diameter circle stickers (I made these on my Cricut)

What I did:
-I cut all the wood pieces to the lengths listed above.

-I put the 1×6 piece of wood as the base and put the 1×3 (12″) on top of it, matching up one side of the woods together. I wood-glued them like this and clamped until they dried. This will become the base of the game.

-I wood-glued the 1×2 piece of wood vertically onto the base. I made sure to glue it in the middle of the base, where the two pieces of wood are together.

-Once this dried, I used a 2-1/2″ wood screw and screwed the 1×2 piece in from beneath the base.

-I took the 1×3 piece (15″) and laid it on top of the 1×2 piece of wood horizontally. I made sure to center it on the 1×2 piece. I put wood glue on the top of the 1×2 and laid the 1×3 on top and clamped until dry.

-Once this dried, I screwed the 1×3 into the 1×2 with a 2-1/2 inch screw going down into the 1×2 piece of wood.

-I made two tiny pilot holes underneath the 1×3 near the edges. I made sure they matched on both sides. I took the small eye hook and screwed it in by hand into the pilot holes.

-I drilled two pilot holes on the sides towards the base of the 1×2 vertical piece. I then screwed the other hooks into them by hand.

This is what the hooks looked like.

-I measured out two pieces of string that I knew were way too long. I tied one end to the eye hook really well. I put the ring on the other end of the string and measured to where the ring would be able to land right on the hook. Once I found that length, I tied the ring at that part of the string and cut any excess string off. I repeated this for the other side.

-I cut out 5 circles in three sizes on my Cricut (this is what you use to keep score). The 1.5” diameter stickers fit perfectly, so I put those on the base.

Now, we have a fun game that will provide hours of entertainment this summer!
