A few weeks ago, when my husband went to get filtered water from our fridge, he heard the loudest noise- it sounded like a jackhammer! It was really loud, and totally came out of nowhere. It made this noise for a couple of days and then completely stopped working.

Dr. YouTube to the rescue! He searched the problem (“Whirlpool water dispenser not working”) and actually found a fix.

He started off by purchasing a new water filter housing. He got this off a website that sold appliance parts. This cost him around $80.

This is the underneath side of the housing

First, he had to remove the grill from the bottom of the fridge. This wasn’t hard to do- it snaps out on both sides.

The water filter housing is located behind the gray rectangle. You open the gray door to access the housing. (Tip: While in here, you may want to vacuum the grill that you see is covered in dust!)

This is the existing water filter housing. You need to remove the two supply lines from the housing. (Tip: Put a towel underneath in case water comes out)

This part is a little complicated. This view is of the back of the refrigerator. See the blue, green, and white pieces on the right? The two white tubes are what runs to the water filter housing (as seen above). What he had to do was to unscrew the metal box from the inside of the fridge to give some slack in the tubing. This way, he could release the tubes from the existing housing.

Going back to the front side, now that the tubes have some slack, you just remove the tubes from the housing. This is what it will now look like.

Now, you take the new housing and insert the two tubes and put the housing back in place! The two tubes are different sizes, so you don’t have to worry about which one goes where. He went back to the backside of the fridge and screwed the metal box back into place, and put the grill back on the front.

That was it! This cost him a total of $80 and took him about 45 minutes to do!
