Going back to my daughter’s “farmhouse” room, another thing she wanted was a brown wooden night stand. Stephen found some free plans on the Rogue Engineer site for an end table, and he was able to modify it to the size she wanted, and the amount of shelves she wanted on it.
I don’t have a lot of pictures along the way, but I’ll guide you through as best as I can!
The main change Stephen made from the original plans were that he made the shelf a few inches taller (changed it from 24 inches to 27 inches), and added in an extra shelf. He did the math to figure out how much extra wood this would require.
This plan required a LOT of pocket holes, which requires specific pocket hole screws. The plus of this is that you can’t see any screws from the top or the side of the table!
For this next step, he repeated this shelf twice.
He put the bottom shelf at the height that the original plans instructed, and he inserted the extra shelf at a height he thought would be good.
He attached the table top to it using wood screws. I then stained it using Minwax Dark Walnut stain.
This took three coats, and it took several days to dry completely. Finally, it was DRY and I could move it into my daughter’s room! Here’s the final product:
There you have it… a really nice-sized night stand, all for about $25!
