We got a lot done in a weekend at the mountain house. One thing we have really wanted to update is the kitchen. It is smaller and the wood makes it very dark, so we’re trying to come up with easy ways to lighten it up (without having to do any major renovations).

In the kitchen, the bottom cabinets were stained red. Over the years, the red has faded and was now a shade that was almost too similar to the brown tops. There wasn’t much differentiation!

Before:

I had some green paint that I got from the “oops” section at Home Depot, and I went for it… I figured it would be better to ask for forgiveness than for permission. 😉 No priming was needed, I just painted the green directly over the stain.

While everyone was at the lake, I started painting, and this is what they came back to find!

What do you think?
