Ahh, the water closet. A small space that not many people get to see. I had updated our master bathroom’s water closet a couple of years ago. I had wanted to test out some peel-and-stick wallpaper and decided to try it on a spot that wasn’t seen by many. This is what I did:

Since then, a couple of updates to this space: we painted our entire bathroom, so the other three walls in the water closet were painted in SW Comfort Gray. Also, the peel-and-stick brick wallpaper was starting to peel off on the bottom… which got me thinking…
I decided I wanted to try something a little different. I found this cute peel-and-stick wallpaper on Amazon for $7.99. I also had some peel-and-stick trim leftover from my master bedroom accent wall, so I decided to go for a half-wall “board and batten” look. I had a spare piece of wood that I cut to 31” across. Then… I got to work.
I peeled off the wallpaper and took down the shelves/shelf holders. Some of the screws were stripped so I couldn’t screw them out- I kept the shelf holders up in hopes to use them again.

I stuck the peel-and-stick trim up, going from the baseboard to a height of about 4 feet. I didn’t have enough to do 4 strips that same length, so I only cut the pieces that went behind the toilet (where you couldn’t see the bottom part) about 1.5 feet long.

I started painting the gold strips and the half wall with SW Comfort Gray.

Finally, the wallpaper arrived!! It matched the paint perfectly with a light grey/green, along with shades of blue, cream and brown.

I started putting the wallpaper on the wall. There is no trick that I know of to make this easier. It’s kind of a pain. Plus, I ran out and had a strip that was about 15” x 5” left. Ugh! I didn’t want to have to buy another whole roll, so I piecemealed smaller pieces together to fill the space. It definitely doesn’t look perfect, but I’m planning on putting a bigger shelf over it. (My original shelf holders’ screws were too stripped and wouldn’t stay in the wall 👎🏻)

Ta da! I really love how it looks! And, since I had so many of the materials already on-hand, it was only $8 out of pocket for me. (Well, not including the $36 shelf I had to buy 😂)
